Since taking office, Mayor Rex has spearheaded an expansion of community policing, resulting in an impressive 84% reduction in gang violence and a substantial 37% decrease in serious crimes. Safety is our priority, and we’re dedicated to making Lancaster a secure haven for families.

As Mayor, Rex opened up city government to give the people of Lancaster a greater voice in their city’s future. He created Citizen Advisory and Oversight Committees to help guide city policies and brought long overdue diversity to City Hall by appointing our first Women and African-American Deputy Mayors.

Protecting Our Environment

Rex pioneered innovative new measures to make home energy more affordable to residents who were struggling to pay their utility bills. He expanded solar power and created the Lancaster Energy Choice service which provides green energy to local families at reduced cost.

Under Rex’s leadership, Lancaster has earned national recognition for climate change leadership and became the first city in the United States to achieve “net zero” energy status.

Rex firmly believes that lasting change can only be achieved when it comes from within the community itself, rather than being imposed from the top. To this end, he has made it a priority to give voice to those who were previously unheard and to empower them with leadership roles in the city. Additionally, he recognizes the value of newly formed citizen committees in shaping policies that are truly reflective of the needs of the residents.

He understands that the success of the city of Lancaster is rooted in the participation and upliftment of every citizen, especially those who have been marginalized for too long.
